The new Traxxas Pro Scale® Sand Car is a 55+ mph replica purpose-built to deliver the same raw excitement and thrill of driving the full-size Funco Motorsports car in dramatic X-Series™ scale.
Both longer and wider than the legendary X-Maxx®, the Pro Scale Sand Car is the largest member of the X-Series family. This immense size gives the Sand Car incredible scale detail, authentic driving dynamics, and an imposing presence. The Sand Car’s huge footprint provides extra stability to blast down desert trails and fly over dunes with ease.
Traxxas pulled out all the stops to replicate the full-size Funco GTU Sand Car in exact detail. The Pro Scale Sand Car features a full interior with dashboard and driver figures and replica remote-reservoir 3.5″ shocks. The engine is a work of art, comprised of 9 different pieces, including licensed R2C air filters and a Whipple supercharger.
Powerful front disc brakes work in tandem with the rear motor braking for powerful and controlled 4-wheel stopping power. Sheathed cables clamp the calipers down on drilled stainless steel rotors for scale authenticity. A digital 2075 servo actuates the brakes through an adjustable linkage for greater braking precision and control.
The Pro Scale Sand Car’s aggressive paddle tires feature twice the traditional number of ribs for extreme traction off the line. A belted carcass prevents the paddles from distorting for maximum forward bite in the sand and powerful acceleration.
A rugged tube frame supports the entire Pro Scale Sand Car body from end to end. The heavily reinforced structure protects the car in case of rollovers and provides a rigid mounting point for the wing and clipless mounts. When it’s time to release the body, simply pull on the self-energizing latches and the entire structure lifts off in seconds.
The Pro Scale Sand Car features Traxxas’ most powerful brushless system, the Velineon® VXL-8s™ speed control and 1200XL motor. The high-performance VXL-8s maximizes power output across the entire rpm range. Bury the throttle at any speed and the Sand Car instantly wheelies until you back off…or run out of desert.
With 30+ volts of brushless power going only to the rear wheels, the Pro Scale Sand Car needs a radically strong driveline. Inside the massively reinforced case, huge module 1.5 wide-face transmission gears feed uninterrupted power to the wheels. A beefed-up X-Maxx differential with larger output cups engages steel driveshafts to form the toughest driveline ever outfitted to a Traxxas vehicle.
Colorful whip lights rise over 10 inches above the body to provide a clear and bright visibility marker when storming dunes at 55+ mph. The lights are color-matched to the body to give the car a dramatic look. New Flex-Tech™ spring-loaded mounts allow the whip lights to bend without breaking in case of rollovers.
A high-performance rear wing provides added stability for high-speed runs and integrates neatly with the clipless body for a highly accurate scale appearance. The wing mounts directly to the tube frame to soak up even the hardest landings.
8s power and aggressive paddle tires make the Pro Scale Sand Car a wheelie monster. The wheelie bar not only prevents backflips, but it also helps to absorb impacts on less-than-perfect landings.
The Pro Scale Sand Car comes prepped for desert duty with aggressive paddle tires that bite into sand for relentless acceleration and massive roosts. The arrow-pattern front tires provide the perfect amount of float for easy driving in deep sand. On hard packed surfaces the front tread pattern delivers a beefy contact patch for responsive steering and excellent braking.
The Pro Scale Sand Car uses all-new 3.6″ wheels modeled after the full-size Funco car. Bright simulated beadlock rings and color-matched aluminum axle nuts contrast the black wheels for a unique look.
The Pro Scale Sand Car elevates scale authenticity with a fully detailed interior. A molded steering wheel and shifters are spaced accurately for the driver figure in front of the fully detailed dashboard with authentically replicated screens and gauges.
Interlocking skid plates integrate precisely with the Sand Car’s chassis to create a smooth undertray that glides over sand and absorbs ground impacts uniformly for predictable performance.
Aluminum GT Maxx shocks with adjustable ride-height collars are built to replicate the huge 3.5″ diameter shocks found on the Funco Sand Car. Replica remote reservoirs give the shocks a fully authentic appearance. New extended aluminum bodies and shafts in the rear shocks provide additional travel to tame the toughest desert terrain.
The Sand Car’s shock towers are an integral part of the frame with massive buttresses to dissipate shock loads throughout the chassis. Heavy-duty receivers secure the clipless body latches directly to the towers for maximum strength.
The Pro-Scale Sand Car’s performance-focused chassis lowers the center of gravity for superior handling and stability. The dual 6700 4s batteries and steering servo position weight as low as possible in the chassis to improve performance and provide protection for these critical components.
The Velineon 1200XL uses an aluminum heatsink that wraps around nearly 75% of the motor’s exposed surface to pull out more heat. Dual electric fan shrouds draw cooling air from the body vents through the oversized fins for more effective cooling performance and longer run times.
A rock-solid motor mount cradles the motor and locks it in place so it can’t flex or slip out of position. Four keyed pins set the gear mesh, eliminating the need for complicated adjustments.
Hook and loop battery hold down straps are messy, frustrating, and steal time away from your driving fun. Traxxas engineering solves this with our proven snap-lock solution that securely holds and protects batteries.
You can never tell what’s over the next dune, so Traxxas outfitted the Sand Car with fully waterproof electronics. A sealed receiver box with an easy access port protects the TQi receiver for all-weather driving.
Dual-bellcrank steering delivers sharp handling and fast reflexes with the security of a heavy-duty servo saver. The double-shear servo horn is bearing supported to eliminate flex for precise steering at high speeds. Special vents keep everything running smoothly by evacuating sand away from the steering components.
Three rugged skid plates key together tightly to protect the Sand Car’s chassis from damage. The front skid plate tapers up to meet the body to prevent the nose from digging into the sand after a hard landing.
Heavy-duty suspension arms are made from Traxxas' toughest material with captured double-shear connections for incredible strength. A polished aluminum finish gives the long-travel arms a fully authentic look to match the full-scale car.
Extreme HD front and rear hub carriers feature oversize bearings to send the Sand Car's brutal 8s power efficiently and reliably to the wheels. Full-contact bearing seals help to keep out sand and grime for less time spent on cleaning and maintenance.
The Sand Car’s rear driveshafts are the toughest ever fitted to a Traxxas vehicle. New beefed-up differential output yokes are even larger than X-Maxx. Power feeds to 17 mm splined aluminum axles through steel CV driveshafts to maximize suspension travel and durability.
The Sand Car uses the same battle-tested internal differential gears from X-Maxx, but the housing has been massively beefed up with a huge 1.5 module ultra-HD straight-cut ring gear for uncompromising durability. The differential is sealed to allow limited-slip tuning with different viscosity oils.
A direct-drive transmission provides instant throttle response and uninterrupted power delivery. Traxxas reinforced the Pro Scale Sand Car’s transmission case and outfitted it with huge 1.5 module gears for bombproof durability.
The Sand Car’s ultra-HD transmission gears are cut to a massive 1.5 module profile that’s 50% larger than standard X-Series gears. The wide-face profile provides a larger contact surface to ensure maximum durability in the face of extreme 8s power.
A 2075 digital servo actuates the powerful front disc brakes through an adjustable linkage for fine tuning. The braided-steel brake cables are sheathed in a protective casing and secured to the suspension arms to guard against damage.
The brake cables operate a cam lever which squeezes brake pads onto the rotor for powerful braking performance. The calipers are spring loaded to reduce friction when not in use. Steel brake rotors are slotted and drilled for added cooling and an authentic appearance.
