This video makes choosing and installing batteries easier than ever!
The Traxxas Unlimited Desert Racer® combines brutal 6s power with authentic driving dynamics for the most realistic off-road experience possible. One key to the Desert Racer’s dynamic realism is the true-to-scale tube chassis. The rigid tube chassis positions the batteries as low as possible for improved handling. In this video you will learn what batteries fit the Unlimited Desert Racer and how to install them.
Remove the skid plate and unlock the battery latch
A protective skid plate shields the battery compartment from rocks and other debris. It also provides redundant protection to keep batteries safely inside the chassis no matter how big the jump. Remove the skid plate to access the battery compartment and unlock the inner battery latch.
Use dual 2s, 3s, or a single 4s LiPo battery pack
Built to handle savage power, the Desert Racer requires LiPo batteries to reach its full potential. You may use a combination of two 2s LiPo batteries, two 3s LiPo batteries, or a single 4s LiPo battery. As with all dual-battery setups, you must use two identical batteries with the truck.
Use the appropriate foam spacers
When using dual batteries, use the appropriate foam spacers to keep the batteries from sliding around in the compartment. Route the wires through the bulkhead and plug them into the fixed terminals.
Lock the battery latch and skid plate
Once the batteries are installed, close and lock the battery latch. Reinstall the protective skid plate and the Unlimited Desert Racer is ready for action.
Using a single 4s LiPo battery
The Unlimited Desert Racer will also accommodate single 4s LiPo packs, but these require a slight modification to the battery compartment.
Installing the jumper for a single 4s LiPo
When using a single 4s LiPo battery, you must install two accessories that came with the truck. Start by removing the four screws that hold down the battery bulkhead and remove it from the vehicle. Next, install the jumper plug that came with the vehicle into the plug closest to the battery.
Install the new bulkhead
Place the optional battery bulkhead over the jumper plug and secure it with the screws removed from the old bulkhead. Depending on the 4s LiPo, you may need to use a foam spacer.
Seal the battery compartment
Once the 4s battery is secure, lock the battery latch into place. Reinstall the battery skid plate and the Unlimited Desert Racer is ready for action!
The Unlimited Desert Racer's large battery tray accommodates many possible battery options. Choose the batteries and charger that best suit your needs from the link below. No matter which batteries you choose, the Traxxas Desert Racer delivers the most realistic off-road driving experience possible without a racing license.
