TRX-4 Crawl and Trail Modes Explained

The Traxxas TRX-4 and TRX-6 model lineup utilizes the XL-5HV electronic speed control to provide the ultimate Scale and Trail Crawler driving experience. The XL-5HV is capable of running on a variety of battery packs from 7-cell NiMH all the way up to 3S LiPo, and offers two additional driving modes specifically for trail running and crawling.

The XL-5HV is configured from the factory in 'Trail' mode. This profile provides a similar driving experience to the standard Sport mode experienced drivers may be used to from other Traxxas models, with the addition of a subtle drag brake to help slow the truck in downhill situations. In this mode, a single push forward on the throttle applies brake, and a second push activates reverse. This mode provides smooth, intuitive driving for most situations.

For more technical driving in steep rocks and other more extreme terrain, Crawl mode is available. This profile features Hill Hold, which applies a heavy brake while in neutral position to hold the truck in place on obstacles. Crawl mode also activates reverse with a single push forward of the throttle, allowing for quick corrections that can help prevent rollovers.
