In 2015, Mercedes-Benz® unveiled the ultimate G-Wagon: the G 500 4X4. This over-the-top iteration of the Gelndewagen features an aluminum-block, twin-turbo V8 that exhales through a pair of side pipes, and delivers 450 pound-feet of torque through military-grade portal axles. Unmatched in both high-end luxury and off-road performance, there’s no other 4X4 like it—and no other RC trail truck like the Traxxas TRX-4® that recreates this magnificent machine in 1/10 scale.

G-Class History
The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon is an off-road icon today, but when the original Gelndewagen first appeared in 1979, its mission was purely utilitarian: reliable all-terrain transportation for soldiers, with minimum complexity and maximum durability. A civilian version followed, largely unchanged from the military specs. Styling? Boxy. Passenger accommodations? Spartan. But for off-roaders, such things matter little compared to terrain-conquering capability, and the G-Wagon was quickly heralded for its off-road prowess. A styling facelift in 1990 and ever-increasing interior refinements grew the popularity of the G-Wagon, and 1994, Mercedes-Benz officially gave the line its own designation: G-Class.

Introduction to the United States
As the legions of G-Wagon fans expanded across Europe and the Middle East, American enthusiasts had to make do with very limited grey-market access to the G-Class. This exclusivity only made the G-Wagon that much more desirable. When Mercedes-Benz finally brought the G-Class to US market in 2001 with the G 55, it arrived as a unique blend of S-Class-worthy luxury and gravity-defying off-road prowess, a six-figure 4X4 of unrivaled reputation.

The Ultimate G-Wagon: 4x4
In 1998, the V8-powered G 500 became a regular production model, and in 2017, Mercedes-Benz unveiled what is still the ultimate G-Wagon: the G 500 4X4. Mercedes-Benz' wild G 63 six-wheeler donated its military-spec portal axles to the G 500, instantly boosting its off-road prowess beyond any other version that came before it. Under the hood, a twin-turbo 4-liter V8 sends 450 pound-feet of torque to the wheels, and snarls through a pair of side pipes.

Traxxas Captures a Legend
Mercedes-Benz officially ended production of the G 500 4X4 in 2018, but that’s not the end of the story. By 2018, the Traxxas TRX-4 had already earned its reputation as the most capable and advanced 1/10 scale truck on the trail. Like the 4X4, Traxxas determined that portal axles would be an essential part of the TRX-4’s class-leading capability. Portal axles’ advantages of greater ground clearance and lower gear reduction benefit full-size and scale 4X4s equally. In 1/10 scale, there’s an added benefit: the virtual elimination of “torque twist.” Even under maximum load, the TRX-4 powers up and over obstacles with straight, forward motion without twisting the chassis.

Advanced Off-Road Technology
In the early days of full-scale off-roading, locking your hubs meant hopping out of your truck and into the mud. Modern trucks control all their functions from convenient cabin-actuated switches. Traxxas was the first to adapt this full-scale technology into 1/10 scale trucks with the remote-locking differentials and 2-speed transmissions found on the legendary Summit. The TRX-4 takes it a step further with cable-actuated differentials and metal-gear High/Low transmission. When the going gets tough, simply flip a switch on your transmitter and the TRX-4 claws ahead with unstoppable traction.

Chassis and Suspension
A thick 1.5 mm steel ladder frame supports the TRX-4 with molded cross members for exceptional torsional rigidity. Even at extreme rock climbing angles, the reinforced chassis resists flex. This allows the suspension to do the work it’s designed to do. Speaking of suspension, the TRX-4’s oil-damped GTS shocks deliver a supple ride over the most rugged terrain. Threaded aluminum shock bodies make it easy to tune ride height and preload the shocks for all conditions.

Highly Detailed Body
It’s the highly-detailed body that most transforms the TRX-4 into the G 500 4X4. The polycarbonate body is molded precisely to capture every crease and corner of the iconic G-Wagon. The mirrors, grille, body moldings, visor, light buckets and lenses are cast as separate parts for maximum detail. Chrome and satin plated finishes match the full-size 4X4, right down to the running boards, skid plates, side pipes, and mufflers. An available LED light kit replicates the full-scale truck and adds another level of scale realism. The G 500 4X4 presents like a fine display model, but one that is tough and ready for off-road adventure like the full-size truck. Waterproof electronics provide year-round fun as the TRX-4 powers through mud, snow, sand, and anything else that gets in its way. No other trail truck offers so much realism, in appearance and in action.
