Portal Axles
A signature feature of TRX-series trucks, portal axles offer two huge advantages on the trail. The first is ground clearance. The portal design allows the differential to sit much higher relative to the running surface, allowing TRX trucks to pass over taller obstacles that would snag a straight-axle truck. The second big plus is the elimination of “torque twist.” When a conventional straight-axle truck leans over as the drivetrain delivers power, that’s torque twist. The portal axle design results in more than twice the total gear reduction of a straight axle. This high gear reduction turns driveshaft RPM into torque, while low-RPM straight axle trucks delivers torque directly to the axle—resulting in torque twist that reduces traction and looks unrealistic in action.

Labeled arms
Portal axles have an extra pair of gears at each end that raise the differential and increase the axle’s total gear reduction. Ground clearance is increased, torque twist is eliminated.

Steel Ladder Frame
All TRX-4 models are built on a pair of rugged C-channel rails made of 1.5 mm steel. Each rail is a single piece that reaches from bumper to bumper with molded crossmembers for maximum durability and strength. Even extra-long rails found in TRX-6 trucks are each one piece, not standard-length rails with bolt-on extensions.

GTS Aluminum Shocks
Standard TRX trucks ride on 90 mm GTS shocks, while lifted High Trail Editions get longer 110 mm GTS shocks for greater articulation. The aluminum bodies have 8 mm bores for authentic scale proportions while allowing sufficient oil capacity for smooth damping performance. Inside the shock, dual X-ring seals and plated shafts assure long seal life and leak free performance. Trailside ride-height adjustments are fast and tool-free thanks to the threaded shock bodies, and the dual-cap design makes shock-oil swaps and rebuilds simple.

Silver shocks are standard, with anodized red, blue, and green available as options.
Extended GTS Shocks
Lifted High Trail Editon trucks get extended 110 mm GTS shocks for greater articulation and control.

Heavy-Duty Steel Suspension Links
TRX-4's upper and lower links are high-strength steel and equipped with captured rod ends and steel hollow balls. The rigid links resist flex and shrug off rock-crawling scrapes for long life and top trail performance.

The Sports' unique bumpers increase approach and departure angles for unstoppable climbing action with the superior traction of fully-locked axles. A lightweight single-speed transmission is geared for massive torque to get the Sport up and over obstacles with ease. Whether it’s a fun trail run or a hardcore technical crawl, the TRX-4 Sport’s capability and purpose-built approach takes your outdoor adventure to a new level.

Assembly Kits

For many RC enthusiasts, building a rig is half the fun. Traxxas offers two kits to give you the satisfaction of building your TRX-4 from the ground up with a full-color assembly manual. The TRX-4 Sport Kit comes without electronics for the ultimate in customization. The TRX-4 Chassis Kit forms a working chassis with the option to choose your own body. No matter which option you choose, Traxxas ProGraphix® paint transforms any clear body into a custom work of art.

Choosing a Wheelbase

TRX-4 trucks come in a variety of different wheelbases to match the proportions of their replica bodies. The Land Rover® Defender® and 2021 Ford® Bronco feature a 12.8″ (324 mm) wheelbase, while the 1979 Ford Bronco and Chevrolet® Blazer are slightly shorter at 12.28″ (312 mm). No matter which truck you choose, all TRX-4s feature adjustable wheelbases for easy conversion to a new body. Click here for a complete how-to guide covering different wheelbase configurations.

Going Clipless

Several TRX-4 trucks now include the convenience of clipless body mounting, including all High Trail editions and the 2021 Ford Bronco. Clipless bodies rely on a hidden internal cage that locks the body into place with a satisfying snap. The latch’s self-energizing design actually holds tighter if a crash impact or rollover pulls on the body. To remove the body, just reach into the fender well and pull the latch toward the wheel opening. A light touch and one second is all it takes, and there are no body clips to lose.

The new TRX-4 2021 Ford Bronco uses a clipless mounting system that increases scale realism and holds tight on the trail.

TRX-4M

There’s one more member of the TRX-4 family that deserves special mention. Outfitted with steel frame rails, oil-filled shocks, and realistic bodies, the TRX-4M scales down all the fun and adventure of the TRX-4 to nearly half its size. The 1/18 scale TRX-4M is small enough for indoor crawling adventures, but its real all-terrain bona fides make it perfect for outdoor fun. TRX-4M takes on challenges with the same Traxxas-Tough durability as its full-size brother with a huge range of accessories for personalized customization.

TRX-4 Sport Kit
TRX-4M features the same clipless body technology as the TRX-4 along with tough body-on-frame construction, just like the toughest full-size rigs on the trail.
